Padang – This year, Lecturers from the Automotive Engineering Department of FT UNP are again carrying out Community Service activities through the Higher Education Superior Product Development Program (P3UPT) scheme for the Automotive Engineering Subject Teachers’ Conference (MGMP) teacher professional organization in West Sumatra. This activity is a continuation of the previous year which was motivated by the difficulties of Automotive Engineering teachers in carrying out learning and providing digital-based learning resources and carrying out Classroom Action Research (PTK) and publishing them in the form of scientific articles in accredited national scientific journals. This of course requires special attention, in order to improve the quality or competence of teachers in learning, research and publication of scientific articles, as well as being able to produce skilled and ready-to-use workers in accordance with the needs of the business and industrial world.
This activity was carried out in the form of training and assistance in developing digital services to implement the online-based Automotive Vocational Education (PVO) learning model at the Automotive Engineering MGMP in West Sumatra which took place on 11 – 12 and 25 – 26 August 2023 at the Computer Laboratory of the Automotive Engineering Department, FT UNP. The service implementation team is chaired by Prof. Dr. Hasan Maksum, M.T. with members Wawan Purwanto, S.Pd., M.T., Ph.D. and Drs. Martias, M.Pd. The resource person for the activity was Iryasman, M.Pd. (BBPMP SUMBAR), Dwi Sudarno Putra, S.T., M.T. and M. Yasep Setiawan, S.Pd., M.T. (Chief Editor at an Accredited National Scientific Journal) and assisted by several students. The activity participants were 30 teachers, 15 teachers from Padang City who came directly to the training location, namely the Automotive Engineering Department Laboratory, FT UNP and 15 teachers from outside Padang City via zoom meeting. This activity was opened by the Head of the Implementing Team, Prof. Dr. Hasan Maksum, M.T. and Chair of the West Sumatra Automotive Engineering MGMP Zarniyanti, S.Pd., M.Pd.T. and witnessed by all the committee members and activity participants present.

This activity is carried out using an offline format for teachers in Padang City and online for teachers outside Padang City. The implementation method uses lecture, demonstration, exercise/practice, discussion, presentation, documentation and evaluation methods which aim to provide knowledge, insight and skills regarding the application of technology in designing digital-based learning processes to support current learning and its application through digital learning training such as training and assistance in making media LKPD, making evaluations, and reflecting on online-based learning. The next goal is for each teacher to be able to carry out independent research to improve the quality of learning and publish it in the form of scientific articles in accredited national scientific journals.

When carrying out training and mentoring, the Implementation Team focuses on solving problems previously faced by teachers so that after the activity they have adequate knowledge and insight into information technology systems, research and publications. With this knowledge and insight, teachers have the ability to predict the methods and steps that will be taken to apply learning well and conduct research to find solutions to problems that occur in student learning activities. Knowledge and insight into information technology systems can stimulate teachers to explore technology that can be applied in learning. So far, teachers have had modules from the Ministry of National Education for face-to-face learning, but teachers do not yet have online-based media that can be applied in the learning process. In this training and mentoring, teachers are taught and trained how to create learning management to improve learning both offline and online as well as how to conduct research in class, write articles and publish them in scientific journals. The results of the work of participants in this training and mentoring are draft scientific articles that are ready to be submitted and published in several accredited national scientific journals.

The West Sumatra Provincial Government through the Education Office and the Chair of the West Sumatra Automotive Engineering MGPM would like to thank the P3UPT Implementation Team of the FT-UNP Automotive Engineering Department for the knowledge, insight and skills that have been given to Automotive Engineering teachers in West Sumatra. They hope that this activity can be continued every year so that teachers are able to have knowledge, insight and skills regarding the application of technology in designing digital-based learning processes to support current learning and its application through digital learning training and so that each teacher can conduct independent research and publish it in the form of scientific articles in accredited national scientific journals.
