Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) System Training Program for Students of SMKN 2 Payakumbuh

One of the mandatory criteria for SMK graduates to have a novelty value is competence. Competency values with minimal novelty will be unable to compete in the current era of rapid technological development. The school has a big role in designing a lesson that has novelty values. To achieve this, the school must move quickly to present cooperation programs, training with other agencies that do have professionalism in their fields. But it is not an easy thing for schools to be able to embrace professional agencies / industries to work together to improve the quality of education in the school environment. The problems experienced by the SMK above are one of the responsibilities of lecturers as educators, where from the Tridharma of Higher Education that must be implemented there are points of community service. The lecturer profession is obliged to carry out community service related to problems that arise around them. Based on the problems experienced by SMK at the starting point, our community service team from the Automotive Engineering Department through LP2M UNP collaborated with schools in presenting novelty competencies. This activity is in the form of Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) fuel system training for students of SMKN 2 Payakumbuh. PKM activities were held on October 11-12, 2020. The opening of the activities was held on October 11, located at SMKN 2 Payakumbuh. The Principal of SMKN 2 Payakumbuh was unable to attend because there was an assignment outside the city so that the opening of the activity was carried out by the Deputy Principal of Student Affairs, Mr.Wendris, S.Pd. In his speech, Mr.Wendris expressed his appreciation for this activity and hoped that in the future there would be more intense cooperation between UNP and SMKN 2 Payakumbuh.

The PKM implementation team applies the covid-19 protocol during the course of the activity. The PKM team provides handsanitizers and masks for training participants in addition to encouraging participants to apply social distancing in practice.

Before the training was held, we from the PKM Team conducted a preliminary test to find out the extent of the participants’ mastery of the material to be given. This functions as the initial mapping so that it becomes a reference for the PKM Team to prepare appropriate materials and methods so that training activities can run properly.

Training activities include: experience of EFI material, components and workings of the ignition system, EFI fuel system, trouble shooting the EFI system and exhaust gas testing.

From the results of the evaluation (theory & practice) at the end of the activity, there was an increase in the competence and understanding of students regarding the EFI material. The service activity was closed with an evaluation of the activity. Participants are given the opportunity to identify damage to the machine in turn. From a theoretical point of view, participants are also given written exam questions.

From the results of the evaluation conducted by the PKM team, it was seen that the participants’ knowledge and competence increased by 30% regarding EFI material. The proposer hopes that this training material can be further developed by teachers at SMKN 2 Payakumbuh so that it can be applied in PBM.
