Three Students Department of Automotive Engineering Design and Manufacture of Appropriate Technology In The Implementation of Real Work Courses

Padang – Monday (7/4) Secretary of LP2M Padang State University (UNP) Dr. Anton Komaini, S.Si., M.Pd. issue a letter with number 465/UN35.13/KM/2021 regarding notification of student registration for KKN for the period of July – December 2021. Furthermore, KKN State University of Padang will be held on June 29 – July 29, 2021 and Alhamdulillah it went smoothly. The process was carried out quite quickly with a tight schedule, but with a spirit of togetherness and struggle that could make it extraordinary, then there were 2 groups of KKN students from the Automotive Engineering Department in Nagari Baringin, Lima Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency and Nagari Koto Dalam Barat, Padang District. Sago Pariaman Regency has an innovation in Designing and Making Appropriate Technology (TTG) as a form of Community Service as a student based on the demands of one of the tridharma of higher education.

As for this Appropriate Technology Design Innovation (TTG), based on the results of the location survey in the two Nagari, where the survey results from the agricultural sector are still many farmers who still use traditional or manual techniques/methods during the planting process and rice harvesting process, Therefore, KKN students took the initiative to make a simple power weeder and a portable rice thresher.

Power Weeder Operation

Weeding is an attempt to eradicate/control weeds (plants that grow around the main crop). Weeding is an important activity in every farm, because it must be implemented to reduce losses in the form of reduced yields due to competition for nutrient absorption in the soil and the pests and diseases it causes. Rice weeding is also one of the activities in the cultivation of lowland rice plants that has an effect on determining the production of agricultural products and to support food self-sufficiency. Therefore, KKN students from the Automotive Engineering Department on behalf of Faisal Amri and Nasrul Hadi along with other KKN Nagari Baringin students took the initiative to make a simple power weeder as an alternative way of weeding in addition to conservative weeding methods directly by hand, such as with hedgehog tools and more.

Rice Thresher Machine Portable Operation

The process of threshing rice is a process carried out to separate rice from rice stalks. Usually the process of threshing rice is still done by traditional or manual techniques. Therefore, the KKN student of the Automotive Engineering Department on behalf of Lasyatta Syaifullah and other KKN Nagari Koto Dalam Barat students took the initiative to make a portable rice thresher machine as an alternative to be able to help farmers in their rice harvesting activities in order to increase the productivity of the rice harvest. It is hoped that after the existence of this Appropriate Technology, it can help farmers to increase the productivity of rice agricultural products.
