Dharmasraya – The Lecturer Team from the Department of Automotive Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Padang State University has once again successfully carried out community service in the 2023 Community Partnership Program (PKM) scheme with the theme “driving safety guidance for youth” in Nagari Koto Padang, Koto Baru District, Dharmasraya Regency. As a PKM partner, Nagari Koto Padang collaborates with SMK Negeri 1 Koto Baru as a place to carry out activities because geographically they are in the same sub-district so that activities can be carried out in a conducive manner.
This PKM activity was chaired by M. Yasep Setiawan, S.Pd., M.T. with members Ahmad Arif, S.Pd., M.T. and Ichsan Nasution, S.Pd., M.T. who participated in organizing and designing this activity. The background to this activity is due to the high number of traffic accidents on the highway caused by negligence and lack of awareness of obeying traffic regulations, especially among the younger generation. This activity aims to increase awareness about the importance of safe driving, especially for the younger generation who are prone to traffic accidents. This activity is expected to reduce work-related accidents and injuries due to vehicle operational errors. This activity was carried out on 7 to 8 September 2023 at SMK Negeri 1 Koto Baru Dharmasraya Regency with young people carrying palm fruit in Nagari Koto Padang as participants. This training began with an official opening by Mr. Zainal Arifin as Mayor of Nagari Koto Padang, Koto Baru District who was accompanied by Mrs. Gustina, S.Pd., M.Si. as Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Koto Baru, Dharmasraya Regency. Material regarding vehicles and driving safety was provided by two instructors, namely Wawan Purwanto, S.Pd., M.T., Ph.D. and Toto Sugiarto, S.Pd., M.Si. The next activity was the practice of assembling a motorbike lighting system guided by Nuzul Hidayat, S.Pd., M.T. The training participants were very enthusiastic about taking part in this training so that they gained knowledge and skills about driving safety that they had not yet fully known.
The PKM activity with the title “Driving Safety Guidance for Youth Transporting Palm Fruit in Nagari Koto Padang, Koto Baru District, Dharmasraya Regency” is funded by the Padang State University Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM UNP) with contract number: 2064/UN35.15/PM/ 2023. The Mayor of Nagari Koto Padang and the Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Koto Baru would like to thank the PKM Team of the Department of Automotive Engineering FT UNP for the knowledge, skills and useful experience they have given to the youth. This activity closed with a group photo and symbolic handover of one (1) unit of motorbike lighting system trainer kit from the head of the implementing team to the principal of SMK Negeri 1 Koto Baru.
