West Pasaman, TIM Abdimas Department of Automotive Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Padang State University, has again successfully implemented Community Service in 2022 with the theme “safety riding.” Nagari Ranah Melintang Preparation, Sungai Aur District, West Pasaman Regency, was chosen as the location for the PKM implementation. As a partner of this PKM, Nagari Ranah Melintang Preparation works with SMKN 1 Sungai Aur as the place for PKM implementation because, technically, Nagari Ranah Melintang Preparation has yet to become a definitive village.
M. Yasep Setiawan initiated this PKM, S.Pd., M.T. as chairman, and two other members, Nuzul Hidayat, S.Pd., M.T., and Ahmad Arif, S.Pd., M.T. who collaborated to arrange and design this activity. The background of this PKM activity is due to the high number of traffic accidents on the highway, which are caused by negligence and lack of awareness of traffic rules. This activity aims to raise awareness about the importance of safe driving, especially for young people prone to traffic accidents. This activity is expected to reduce accidents and work-related injuries resulting from vehicle operational errors.
This activity was carried out from 29 July 2022 to 2 August 2022 at SMKN 1 Sungai Aur, and the target participants were youth transporting palm fruit in Nagari Ranah Melintang Preparation. The training began with the official opening by Mr. Hardimentis Marwan, S.Pd., M.Pd.T. as a partnership representative and, at the same time, the Principal of SMKN 1 Sungai Aur. Material regarding vehicles and safety riding was provided by two instructors, namely Dwi Sudarno Putra, S.T., M.T., Toto Sugiarto, S.Pd., M.Sc., and Wawan Purwanto, S.Pd., M.T., Ph.D. The following day, the safety riding practice activities using a motorbike were mentored by Drs. Martias, M.Pd. and Rizal Mukhtar, S.Pd. The training participants were very enthusiastic about participating in this training, where the participants gained a lot of knowledge and skills related to safety riding that they had not known so far.
The PKM activity entitled “Safety Riding Training for young Transporter Palm Fruit in Nagari Persiapan Ranah Melintang, Sungai Aur District, West Pasaman Regency” was funded by the Padang State University Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM UNP) with contract number: 1252/UN35 .13/PM/2022.
