Lecturers of the Automotive Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Padang carried out Community Service (PKM) activities at SMKN 1 Bukit Sundi, Solok Regency on 23 to 25 August 2019. The implementation of this service activity was chaired by Dr. Hasan Maksum, M.T. with members Toto Sugaiarto, S.Pd., M.Si. and Ahmad Arif, S.Pd., M.T. as well as training instructor Dedi Setiawan, S.Pd., M.Pd.T. and one student, M. Faiz Saputra. This activity was carried out thanks to the collaboration established by Padang State University through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) with the Solok Regency Government through the Education Office and SMKN 1 Bukit Sundi.
The service activities carried out were in the form of training with the theme “Training for Vocational Competency Improvement of Motorcycle Technology for Vocational School Students in Solok Regency” which was attended by 20 participants from students of the Motorcycle Engineering expertise program at SMKN 1 Bukit Sundi. This training aims to improve the vocational competence of motorbike technology for SMK students as a provision in facing job opportunities after graduating from school while simultaneously reducing the open unemployment rate of SMK graduates, especially in Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province. This community service activity was opened directly by Drs. Syafriantoni, M.Kom as the Principal of SMKN 1 Bukit Sundi who was accompanied by Dr. Hasan Maksum, M.T. as the Head of the Implementing Team. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Principal, Head of the Motorcycle Engineering Expertise Program and several teachers. During the activity, the school always accompanies and assists the implementing team and participants (students) so that all stages of the training are carried out smoothly.
In general, the training material is given in theory and practicum delivered by lecturers, instructors and students from the Automotive Engineering Department, FT-UNP. The training materials include basic motorcycle technology, main motorcycle systems and their components, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of motorcycle electronic injection fuel systems. After the training, students are expected to have good knowledge and skills or competency in motorcycle technology so that they are able to prepare themselves to enter the world of work immediately when they graduate.

At the end of the training, the school thanked the Lecturers and Students of the Implementation Team from the FT-UNP Automotive Engineering Department for having gone directly to SMKN 1 Bukit Sundi to provide useful knowledge to students about the competence of motorcycle technology. Furthermore, they hope that this activity can take place every year so that it can improve student competence on an ongoing basis in accordance with the development of motorcycle technology.
